For the second time, Jennifer Harman organized a charity poker tournament with the proceeds going to the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Over 200 players including many celebrity poker players gathered on Friday, April 18th at the Venetian poker room to play at Jennifer Harman's second annual poker tournament for the SPCA. Last year's successful event raised $130,000 for the SPCA shelter in Las Vegas. Following on last year's success, Jennifer Harman planned the second event with the animals at the heart of the matter. Poker stars galore appeared to offer a hand and donate money to needy animals. Poker celebrities that attended the event included Johnny Chan, Jennifer Leigh, Howard Lederer, Mike Sexton, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Joe Hachem and several others. Many of the poker celebrities entered the event with a shelter animal in hand. In a bright and fun atmosphere, people arrived to play poker all with the good of furry friends in mind. The recommended donation for participation in the event was $300. As an additional way of raising money, there was also an auction of poker player's memorabilia at the tournament. The first prize at the Jennifer Harman charity poker tournament was an entry seat into the Main Event at the 2008 World Series of Poker. The hosts of the charity poker tournament The Venetian not only provided the venue but also donated a generous $5,000 to the event for the SPCA. Jennifer Harman noted "I can't thank The Venetian and my friends enough for the flood of support they've shown the Nevada SPCA". She stated that "These animals give unconditional love. This is a chance for all of us to give something back." The funds raised are expected to be used to assist the Nevada SPCA no-kill animal shelter. It is reported that $320,000 was raised at this event for the Nevada SPCA. The event proved to be a lot of fun and seems to show that the game of poker and its big hearted players can do some good in the world.
