Single table SNG tournaments is a unique variety of poker tournaments. In contrast to MTT, for a short period of time we can play quite a big amount of poker: such tournament usually lasts about 40-45 minutes, if you play it on-line.

I have always liked SNG tournaments as I can clearly control my expenditures. Usual cash game does not allow to do it. I cannot tell you for sure how many stacks I'm going to win or lose: still it is a No Limit Texas Holdem.

While playing SNG you know exactly all your possible expenditures and all your possible wins. There are no driving you mad dawnswinds in SNG. Of course they exist, but comparing to No Limit Texas Holdem – it is trifle.

On the other hand there is practically no proper information as for the No Limit Texas Holdem. Half of the strategies that I used to find were not good even for the cheapest tournaments.

In principle it is not that difficult to play in such poker tournaments. For this, you should know few simple rules and strictly follow them.

Early stages of tournament.

At early stages when the table is practically full and blinds are small in respect of your stek, your play should be maximum tight. There is only one explanation to it: all lost chips are much more valuable than those that are won.

I know a couple of players who play only QQ+, AK at the first two-three levels of the tournament. I usually add to these hands AQ and any pairs. With these hands I call a minimum bet. A good chart of starting hands is available at the site PokerStrategy.

It is useless to steal blinds at this level.

Medium levels

BB is of about 100 chips and more. There remained 6-7 rivals at table. It is just the time to play more aggressively. Now you can steal blinds.

It is time to activate Push or Fold strategy. We either push all chips or fold.

Struggle for trophies

At this stage what is left - is to rely on the cards. I cannot give you any particular recommendations. Find some good article on Independent Chip Model. There is exactly the same one at PokerStrategy.
