Big Troubles with Big Slick: Playing AK in no limit texas holdem ring game

Big Slick (Ace King) is one of the most interesting starting hands in Texas holdem. By force, it is the fourth best starting hand, after pairs of Aces, pairs of Kings and pairs of Queens. Thus, this hand loses many pots. And as long as the preflop is placed with this hand, the pot appears to be sufficiently large. And each of such loss suggests: "I'm I playing correctly?". And is it really how to play this cunning hand?

I can definitely say that it is necessary to bet on the preflop. Moreover, bet as many as you bet with greater pairs. I play by short stack strategy, therefore I always place identical: 4BB + 1BB for every limp.

Having on my hands AK, I bet without depending on the position. I will even bet, if there was one raise before me. In this case, I would raise its placement by three times. It is necessary to fold AK if it was raise and re-raise before you. However, it is possible to try to play, if they were loose players. In Carbon Poker, for some tables, such focuses will pass. In Full Tilt Poker, it is possible to run into troubles.

Some players advise to put 70 %-80 % of cases. I do not know. Maybe it is worth it to play with large stack. Playing with a short stack, I have no opportunity for manoeuvres. It is better to open more tables.

Get ready to throw off cards in the flop. During unfavorable flop, I do continuous placement in approximately two thirds of bank if I remained in a situation of one-on-one. Otherwise, I simply play check/fold.

With such cards, it is possible to try to break through the opponent and to continue the bluff on the postflop but only if the stack allows. I prefer to place on postflop if the hand has improved. Otherwise, I play check/fold.

In long distance AK - the game is very profitable if it is played accurately enough.
