Sit And Go Strategy. Part 1. SNG Overview

SNG, a shortened form of the term Sit n Go, is the name of a style of poker tournament. The main element that characterizes the SNG is that it has no scheduled start time and the action begins once there are enough interested participants.

SNG Basics

Unlike other poker tournaments, the way in which an SNG works is that a player selects a particular tournament and then arranges a buy-in. There is no necessity for advance registration as players are required to buy-in and then the tournament only begins once enough players have registered. Basically, a player selects an SNG tournament, pays a buy-in fee and once all the seats have been filled, the poker action begins. In general, there are usually nine or ten players at an SNG poker tournament table. SNG tournaments are usually played at online sites however in some land based casinos they may also be located.

SNG tournament buy-in …

The SNG buy-in is the way in which a player arranges participation in the tournament. Different SNG poker tournaments are available that range from a buy-in price as small as one dollar to a price that may be hundreds of dollars. Once paid, this buy-in amount then enters the prize pool. For participation in the SNG, a player is also required to pay an entrance fee that in most cases is approximately 10% of the buy-in charge. Therefore, a $50 SNG tournament would entail a $50 buy-in charge together with a $5 handling fee.

Attraction of SNG tournaments …

* No advance registration is necessary for SNG poker tournaments. This makes the SNG a convenient way to play.

* SNG tournaments can usually be found online at any time of the day or night for players' convenience and entertainment.

* SNG single table games can usually be entered quickly and simply at online locations.

* A major benefit to SNG poker tables is that these provide exciting tournament action and experience for some players who would probably not enter a regular poker tournament.

* SNG poker tournaments may be accessed for a very small charge. This can therefore be an inexpensive way to enjoy fun poker action.

SNG poker tournament winnings …

In most single table SNG tournaments, winnings are usually awarded to those players finishing in the first three places. The prize pool is usually split up into 50% for first position, 30% for the runner up and 20% for the third place.

Multi table SNG tournaments …

The simple way to explain a multi table SNG is that it is just like a single table SNG, but it enables a gamer to play at more than one poker table at the same time. Many players enjoy this type of action as this offers an exciting way to compete in different poker tables simultaneously. Although the thought of this may appear to be complicated, in effect this means that a player may move to the screen of the particular SNG table when his or her turn comes around.
